Getting electricity for doing business in Bangkok

For an entrepreneur in Bangkok.

Metropolitan Electricity Authority has processes as follows:

Submit application, arrange date of meter installation , 1 calendar day
External wiring and meter installation, 14 calendar day

An application for requiring a permanent electricity connection

A. Evidence of identity

Juristic person : a copy of juristic person certificate issued by government agencies (a certificate must not exceed 6 months since the date that the applicant ask for connecting a permanent electricity.). In case of juristic person, those who filed petition must have full authority and must bring a copy of identification card.

B. Evidence of the applicant’s premise

Juristic person: a copy of juristic person certificate

C. Evidence of relationship between the applicant and the place that will receive electricity. (each or other)

· A copy of house registration with the user name or a requesting house number form or sale and purchase contract, in case of user have an ownership on land or place that use electricity.

· Rent or hire purchase land with building contract.

· A evidence that show status of entrepreneur such as value added tax registration, specific business tax registration, commerce registration and evidence of personal income tax.

D. For the certification of internal electrical installer, the following documents must be attached.

· Certificate of training in internal electrical installation.
  ·   Single line diagram and Load schedule
  ·   Specification of electrical equipment
  ·   Internal electrical installation photos, Including main distribution board, service conductors, ground wire, installed electricity location with number.

A. An evidence for identify electricity user. In case of “Juristic Person”use a copy of juristic person certificate issued by government agencies. If issued by Ministry of Commerce, a certificate must not exceed 6 months. (Counting to the day that users ask for use of electricity.) In case of authorization, application is presented including an evidence of authorizer and authorized person with signature in the request form.

C. An evidence that shows relationship between user and the place that use electricity. A copy of house registration with the user name or a requesting house number form or sale and purchase contract, in case of user have an ownership on land or place that use electricity
A copy of sale and purchase agreement and a copy of house registration or a document that have a house number, in case of user have not an ownership on land or place that use electricity
A copy of house registration.

Juristic Person Qualifications

· Juristic Person must have an engineer who has a License for Professional Practice of professional Electrical Engineer (Power) or above at least 1 person.

· Objective of Juristic Person must engage in conducting electrical power system businesses.

· An engineer who will be trained with MEA must be an employee of Juristic Person and has a License for Professional Practice of Associate Electrical Engineer (Power) or above.

Scope of work certification

· Juristic person can design and approve electric plan and certify the installation of internal electric wiring that power consumption not over than 4,000 kVA.

· The installation of electrical power system for high-rise buildings, large buildings, danger zone, specific place and underground electrical system is not included in certification

Responsibility

· juristic person assigns electrical engineers to have been trainings and exams by team of MEA professional engineers.

· Juristic Person are responsible for the correctness of the Single line diagram and Specification of electrical equipment especially the installation of electrical power system that must be comply with the EIT or MEA standard. MEA will install meter and connect the electrical system according date and time of appointment without internal wiring inspection.

· MEA reserves the right to internal wiring inspection after the connection is complete. Juristic Person must improve the electrical power system within 30 days since being notified from MEA. In case that Juristic Person does not finish the improvement within deadline, MEA will cancel Juristic Person from the list of licensed contractors installing internal wiring and inform customer for improving by MEA later.
