MEA elevates Rattanakosin Island power system

7 May 2019 255
On April 30, 2019, Mr. Jaturong Suriyasasin, Assistant Governor of Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA), and a spokesperson for MEA, said that as a state enterprise under the Ministry of Interior responsible for distributing electricity in Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samut Prakan, MEA has elevated the Rattanakosin Island power system by improving both the electrical stability and the landscape for a good image and power efficiency in those areas.

To improve the stability of the Rattnakosin Island power system, MEA has upgraded from the normal network to a more stable and special level platform ‘the Secondary Network’ whose system can support in the case where any circuit line is interrupted, it will connect with other substitute power supplies to continually provide electricity at once and to help prevent blackouts or brownouts in the areas. For those areas outside the Secondary Network, the power supply systems are designed to have backup lines equipped with automatic switch to immediately swap the power distribution system into the backup line system within 5 seconds. Moreover, MEA has increased the power efficiency through additional projects of the overhead-to-underground cable conversion, particularly in the intersection areas of Bamrung Muang Road, Si Kak Sao Chingcha, Fueang Nakorn Road, Charoenkrung Road, Rachini Road, Tanao Road, Bowon Niwet Road, Phra Sumen Road and Atsadang Road, with a total distance of 1.8 kilometers.

To beautify the landscape, MEA has improved the electrical equipment in public areas, including the installation of transformer fencing and safety labels on electrical cabinets. MEA has also collaborated with related agencies to organize telecommunications cables and to inspect and maintain the lighting system by joining with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration in installing public LED lamps and decorative lights at major landmarks such as the City Pillar Shrine in front of Wat Phra Kaew, the Ministry of Defense, the Grand Palace, Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Wat Rajabophit, and Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram.
