Metropolitan Electricity Authority has bestowed Logo of the “Best Saving Energy Building” year 1-2, which saved the electricity cost for 18 million baht a year in the first year.

March 3, 2014 Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) arranged the ceremony to bestow the Logo of “MEA the special outstanding Energy Saving Building” and “MEA the outstanding Energy Saving Building” which is the Logo in Level 2 for the building type of hospital and hypermarket and to bestow the Logo in Level 1 for the building type of offices and hotels.
Mr. Somchai Roadrungwasinkul, Deputy Governor represents of MEA’s Governor as the president of the ceremony who bestowed the Logo this time revealed that the improvement of efficiency of energy saving inside the building project which hosted by MEA has been continuously arranged for 5 years by setting up the target group of building in the MEA’s distribution districts which are Bangkok, Nonthaburi, and Samutprakarn yearly to motivate the building’s owners to save the energy and consume it efficiently inside the building.
From the intensive operation of all the buildings which joined this project for the first year in 2013 for the building type of hospital and hypermarket, the energy saving trending has been raised up concretely and energy has been saved obviously which can be calculated for 4.703 million megawatts a year valued 18.237 million baht a year which help in reducing carbon dioxide for 3.416 tons a year.
There are 10 buildings succeeded in the first year in energy saving efficiently among the several buildings which joined this project, they are 4 hospital buildings and 6 hypermarket buildings. The following details from these building have been used in considering awarding the “MEA Energy Saving Building Award 2013.
Building type of Hospital
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the best excellent Energy Saving Building Award” with 2,000,000 baht prize and the best Energy Saving Building of MEA is “Phyathai 2 Hospital”.
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the special outstanding Energy Saving Building Award” with 500,000 baht prize is “Queen Sirikit National Institute of Child Health”.
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the outstanding Energy Saving Building Award” are “Nakornthon Hospital” and “Phyathai 3 Hospital”.
Building Type of Hypermarket
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the best excellent Energy Saving Building Award” with 2,000,000 baht prize – there is no building winning this award.
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the special outstanding Energy Saving Building Award” with 500,000 baht prize are “Tesco Lotus, Sukhaphibal 3” and “Makro, Sathorn”.
- The building which received the Logo of “MEA the outstanding Energy Saving Building Award” are “Tesco Lotus, Rama 4” and “Tesco Lotus, Chaengwattana”.
For the 2nd year of the competition, MEA Energy Saving Building Award 2014 for the building type of offices and hotels, there are 24 buildings from 38 buildings received the Logo in Level 1 “MEA the Energy Saving Building” and qualified to compete for the Level 2 to search for the best Energy Saving Building with MEA to receive award of “MEA the outstanding Energy Saving Building” and “MEA the best excellent Energy Saving Building” with the prize for 5 million baht.
“This competition showed the objectives of MEA, whereas we are the organization that is selling the electricity but we also support the energy saving which will benefit to the country. MEA hopes that this project will arouse the conscious and be the model for the energy saving in the future”, Mr. Somchai said.
