MEA is accepting applications for Demand Response Pilot Project 2022-2023 to reduce electricity consumption in Category 3, 4 and 5 according to EPPO policy
The Energy Policy and Planning Office and the three electricity authorities have jointly undertaken the Demand Response Pilot Project for 2022 - 2023 to test the reduction of electricity consumption during system peak periods through the Firm Response Program (Commit Capacity DR Program). The implementation will help reduce the power system loads to replace the construction of power plants and to reduce the costs of power generation during system peak hours. Participants will reduce the use of electricity from January to December 2023. Applications for those who wish to participate in the pilot project will be open within 2022 in the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA)’s service areas. The goal is to reduce the use of electricity at 19.5 megawatts in two periods: 13.30 - 16.30 hrs. and 19.30 - 22.30 hrs. (power users can choose to reduce power consumption in a single period or both periods).
Rewards for power consumption reduction :
Those who have been selected to participate in the pilot project will be rewarded in the form of Availability Payment (AP) and Energy Payment (EP).
Reward rate for participants :
Comprising two main parts:
Part 1: Availability Payment (AP) at a rate of 44.5692 baht/kW/month.
Part 2: Energy Payment (EP) at different rates according to the months calling for reduction of power usage. The details are as follows:
- January, February, November and December 2023 > EP rate at 1.2790 baht/unit
- March to October 2023 > 2.5581 baht/unit
Calling period for power consumption reduction and rewards :
From January to December 2023
Target group of electricity users:
Basic qualifications of those who can apply for the pilot project shall be the electricity users in the category of electricity tariffs for medium businesses (Type 3), large businesses (Type 4), and specific businesses (Type 5) with potential to reduce electricity consumption each time no less than 50 kilowatts.
Application period:
