MEA conducts meeting to clarify four underground power cable projects in Thon Buri
On 10 August 2022, Mr. Thitiwut Ngoenklai, Director of Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) Project Management, chaired the meeting to clarify the overhead-to-underground cable conversion projects on four routes: Arun Amarin Road, Somdet Phra Pinklao Road, Phran Nok Road, and Wang Lang Road. Attending the event were representatives from business organizations, private households, and public agencies in the areas to be informed of the operational details and to exchange ideas to reduce the impact which may occur during the construction. The meeting was held under Covid-19 screening measures and ATK testing in a strict manner at Arun Amarin Room, 1st Floor, Chumphon Khet Udomsak Building, Navy Auditorium, Arun Amarin Road.
Mr. Thitiwut said that MEA has emphasized power efficiency for smart living in response to the policies of the Ministry of Interior and the government to accelerate the conversion of the overhead power lines to underground cables in a consistent manner. Recently MEA has implemented the projects on Arun Amarin Road (from Rama VIII Bridge to Prachatipok Road), Somdet Phra Pinklao Road (from Arun Amarin Road to Charansanitwong Road), Prannok Road (from Itsaraphap Road to Charansanitwong Road), and Wang Lang Road (from Arun Amarin Road to Itsaraphap Road), covering a total distance of 8.2 kilometers. The light poles are expected to be demolished in 2025. The operation has taken place from 22:00 – 05:00 hours daily to avoid the effects of traffic congestion.
The projects include the construction of manholes and underground conduits, the construction of equipment base, the installation of electrical equipment, the installation of underground cable, and the cable conversion from overhead to underground. This operation will help enhance stability and credibility of the power systems and increase preparedness to cope with the future power demand of businesses and private organizations in the areas while creating beautiful scenery for Bangkok and Nonthaburi provinces as well as enhancing safety for residents in the areas. In the meeting, participants have expressed their opinions and provided important information for MEA to make sure all plans will be properly carried out to least affect the public.
