MEA reminds residents to beware of electrical fires during winter

14 November 2018 350
Ms. Phasuk Sampunnachote, Director of Corporate Communications of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) revealed that MEA has expressed concern over energy use. As announced by the Thai Meteorological Department on 24 October 2018, Thailand will be entering the winter on October 27, 2018, resulting in cooler temperatures. The weather is usually dry because of low humidity. If any of the electrical equipment is damaged and not working properly, it may cause electric short circuit and fire.

For safety and to prevent fire, MEA would like to remind those who travel to the countryside or return to your homeland, please ensure your electrical equipment, power cords, and plugs are in good condition. If any damage is found, fix it immediately. Before leaving home, switch off the lights and unplug all unused appliances. Be careful when using electricity especially for the installation of water heater: Switches and accessories must be waterproof and equipped with a grounding system and a circuit breaker by qualified technicians. Turn off your water heater after use for safety and to save money on electricity. Do not adjust the temperature too high. Please read the manual carefully before use.

For those who need more advice on how to efficiently and safely use electricity, please dial MEA Call Center 1130, available 24 hours a day.
