MEA’s 60th Anniversary: following royally granted name ‘Watanawipas’ for Smart Light

5 November 2018 28
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) was very grateful for HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s royal grace in naming MEA’s new headquarters building ‘Watanawipas’ which means the prosperity of the light industry. Inspired by this auspicious name, the Smart Light program was initiated to provide safe and stable lights in all areas.

Mr. Chaiyong Puapongsakorn, MEA Governor, said that MEA has celebrated the 60th anniversary and stepped forward to the 61st year with confidence and pride by carrying out an important mission to provide a stable, reliable and safe power system for Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samutprakarn. On this particular occasion, Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has graciously presided over the opening ceremony of MEA’s new headquarters building and granted its name as ‘Watanawipas’ means the building with prosperity for the light industry. It was also the greatest honor to have HRH’s initials ‘Sor Tho’ on the building’s nameplate. MEA has conveyed the auspicious meaning of the building as guidelines for the success of its mission by conducting ‘Smart Light’ activity. The aim of this program was to drive the development of lighting systems for stability and to develop advanced lighting innovations while adding lights to all areas of responsibility to beautify the capital city at night in accordance with the Smart Metro policy.

Under the concept of ‘Smart Light’, MEA will use advanced technologies to achieve its goals. If you find a light goes off or require more lights in certain areas, please notify through MEA Smart Life Application with a special function to send information with pictures and maps, anytime around the clock. MEA also inspects and improves the lighting systems in important public places, communities, markets, and every street, especially in risky areas with less lighting, areas with construction materials or unsafe areas where people are most at risk of robbery and burglary. MEA will consistently monitor and improve the lighting systems for stability and safety.

If you find MEA’s power lines, power poles or equipment in a damaged condition or potentially unsafe, please contact MEA officials at any districts or dial 1130 - MEA Call Center or notify through our up-to-date MEA Smart Life Application on your smart phone.
