MEA warns people to take precautions of the dangers of electricity during rain and gusts of wind and in flooded areas

18 May 2018 253
The Metropolitan Electricity Authority (MEA) expressed concern to the people warning of electrical hazards during rain and in flooded areas. It is necessary to avoid touching electrical equipment while wet. And always check the electrical equipment to ensure they are in good condition, safe and above the flooding level. If you see an unsafe situation, please notify through MEA Smart Life Application or MEA Call Center 1130, anytime around the clock.

Mr. Jaturong Suriyasasin, Corporate Communication Director of MEA revealed that according to the weather forecast of the Meteorological Department on April 28, 2018 concerning the general situation in the next 24 hours, the North, the Northeast, the East, the Central including Bangkok and Vicinity as well as the South are likely to experience thunderstorms, gusts of wind and isolated heavy rain. People in the certain area should be aware of the danger from thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain probably causing the MEA service areas which include Bangkok, Nonthaburi and Samutprakan to face high flood level in some areas. MEA raised concern and advised people to beware of the danger from electric shock. Avoid wading through water. If you have to walk through the flooded areas, it is recommended to avoid getting close to or touching power poles, metal poles with electrical equipment, billboards or power plugs to prevent hazards. If the water level in your house starts to rise up near the electrical equipment, immediately move the outlet and the equipment away from the flooded area to prevent damage and power leakage. Explore the trees of your house to ensure they do not rub against power lines to avoid outage and leakage. For owners or installers of billboards, passenger pavilions, bus stops or others buildings, always make sure the structures are secure and safe. Meanwhile, follow the news and monitor the situation closely.

If you find MEA’s power lines or equipment in a damaged condition or potentially unsafe, please contact MEA officials at any districts or dial MEA Call Center 1130 or notify through MEA Smart Life Application on your smart phone, download at http://is.gd/KlyQKF available in iOS and Android systems, anytime around the clock.
