Mr. Chan Patamawipak, Director of Corporate Communication Department, MEA, revealed that MEA cares about public safety during Songkran festival, which is the long-period holidays. Therefore, for safety and prevention of fire, MEA recommend customers who will leave home for travelling or back to hometown to ensure their electrical equipment to be in safe condition. Turn off lights and unplug appliances when they are not in use. Check power cords and plugs. If any damage is found, it is recommended to fix it without delay to prevent potential fire risk. Prune trees to ensure they do not rub against power lines as those may cause power failure and damage to electrical systems.
In the water festival, apart from using water efficiently, the safety in splashing water should be aware. Please avoid splashing water to electrical appliance or damaged power lines. It can cause short circuit and electric shock, especially while your body is wet – the touching to electrical appliance, press electrical ring, plug-in, as well as switch on/off light or machine are prohibited. They are risky of power leakage, causing electrical shock. Any foam party or water tunnel must be designed and supervised by electrical engineer and have Earth Leakage Circuit Breaker (ELCB). If necessary, please be sure your body is totally dry, unless it can cause fatal hazard. In the area of activity, e.g. parade, please beware of hooking overhead power lines. Moreover, please avoid drinking liquor during driving to prevent car accident, especially car crash into electrical pole. It can cause injuries or death, as well as the blackout in such area.
