The Deputy Governor said that MEA has realized the importance of safety for students and school personnel in using electrical appliances, especially the water cooler which is in daily use of teachers and students. The project was initiated to build safety and confidence and to prevent electric shock by installing ground wires and circuit breakers. If any leakage occurs from the appliance, the electric current will flow into the ground without causing any harm to those touching the water cooler. Furthermore, this program also gives parents and the public confidence in school safety while providing the students with clean drinking water and a better and safer quality of life.
The Deputy Governor further said the installation and maintenance of water coolers equipped with ground wires have been operated for 1,068 schools in Bangkok, Samut Prakan and Nonthaburi since 2005, including 868 public schools under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration and the Office of the Basic Education Commission (OBEC), and 200 private schools, with a budget over 50 million baht. The project was completed in 2016 and MEA has constantly been sending the staff to maintain and improve the grounding system of water coolers every two years in all schools while displaying the instructions and warning labels clearly. The results of the operations from 2005 onwards, no harm comes to the users after the installation of grounding system.
